Samford safety drill
Samford students conduct a medical emergency drill on the university campus in 2015.
Dawson Family of Faith will experience a faux earthquake on Tuesday, April 5.
Samford's College of Health Sciences has moved its annual disaster simulation training exercises from campus to the church's gym and recreation center at 1114 Oxmoor Road. The drill lasts from 1:30 to 3 p.m. and will include a simulated birth, air-lift transport, amputation, psychological situations, victims of electrocution and debris as well as other medical emergencies.
About 300 Samford students in various health-related studies will be working with Regional Paramedic Services, Jefferson County EMA, American Red Cross, Homewood Fire, Homewood Police and North Flight. A North Flight EMS helicopter will land in the neighboring Trinity United Methodist Church parking lot at about 1:45 p.m., and four patient transfers from the gym to the helicopter will take place during the drill.
