With its opening match against rival Vestavia in the rear view mirror, the Homewood Patriots will spend the next week looking to rebound as a team.
Multiple turnovers and an exceptionally strong Vestavia ground game combined to drop the Patriots to an 0-1 start after a 34-14 loss to the Rebels.
The Rebels piled up over 300 yards with their ground game, featuring 4 backs with over 50 yards.
Despite the final score, the Patriots’ opener did feature outstanding performances. Homewood’s quarterback, Carson Griffis, accounted for touchdowns late in each half. A 22-yard pass to Devonte Wallace capped off the first half, and a 45-yard touchdown scamper helped restore the team’s pride in the game’s final 2 minutes.
Although Vestavia’s rushing yards, were important, the Homewood turnovers were pivotal in keeping the Patriots’ offense from running at full speed, scoring points, and keeping its defense off of the field.
