Homewood All-Stars softball
The Homewood All-Stars won the 10u softball championship on June 27.
The Homewood 10U All Stars softball team had to win four games in order to make the state championship against top seeded Hoover. Its journey to league championship began on Thursday, June 25 with a double elimination tournament. The All-Stars defeated Springville 1-0 and then crushed Moody 14-1 to place them in the No. 2 seed for Saturday’s bracket play.
The All-Stars were triumphant over Moody 12-0 on Saturday to advance to the semi-final of the winners bracket. Next, the team knocked out No. 1 seed Hoover Black Widows in a 6-2 victory to guarantee their spot in the final game. Facing Hoover again, the girls entered the final game with an undefeated record.
That undefeated record would remain. Homewood scored 3 runs early and held Hoover to 2 runs to complete 6 innings of a hard fought game between both teams.
“The girls did an amazing job and worked really hard this past season to reach their goal of winning state,” said Alissa Brock, senior recreation leader for Homewood Parks and Recreation. “Each player was registered for a recreation team and chose to participate on the OTM team as well.”
The girls practiced once a week with the OTM team and once a week with their recreation team. During days they weren't committed to games with their recreation team, they were off scrimmaging other OTM teams in the area.
“The girls have put in countless hours, tears and sweat to make this goal a reality,” Brock said.
The girls’ overall combined record for both OTM and all-stars is an impressive 45-6. Their overall record is 19-4. They also won first place in both pre-area tournaments and second in the area tournament.
Team members are Zoe Couch, Camille Etheridge, Kayla Mardis, Ella Walker, Katherine Howell, Susanna Sheehan, Eva White, Isabella Antonio, Hunter Dunn, Emily Dunn and Livy Dunn.
Fall softball registration will be held Aug. 10-Sept. 4. For more information, visit homewoodparks.com.
