As Friday night approached, Homewood High School spirit ramped up in anticipation for the football team's return to Waldrop Stadium on Sept. 30, 2016. The students celebrated their school's homecoming week with the annual Homewood Homecoming Parade and the Friday afternoon pep rally.
The parade featured the many different clubs offered at Homewood High School as well as other local organizations such as youth cheerleading and youth football. The Homewood Patriot Marching Band brought up the rear and finished in front of City Hall on 19th Street, stopping to perform for the crowd.
Students filed into the gym Friday afternoon before being let out of school for a high-spirited pep rally. The cheerleaders and Star Spangled Girls dance team performed as well as the color guard and drumline. Moms also took to the dance floor to show of their moves as while their senior students joined them for the end of the routine.
Competition among classes was incorporated into the pep rally as the different classes battled for the spirit stick and honor of winning the karaoke contest. While the seniors were victorious in winning the spirit stick, the juniors stole the title of karaoke winners with a group rendition of "Don't Stop Believing."
Prior to kickoff on Friday night, the homecoming court strolled down the 50-yard line as they were introduced to the crowd. Senior cheerleader and Miss Homewood winner Lucy Williams was crowned 2016 Homecoming Queen.
The Patriots went on to dominated John Carroll with an overwhelming 45-0 victory to close out the week.
