The Homewood Athletic Foundation will host the Buddy Wade Memorial Golf Tournament on Sept. 18, at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Oxmoor Valley.
The Homewood Athletic Foundation helps support student-athletes at Homewood High School and Homewood Middle School by funding grant applications for equipment, scholarships and competitive opportunities the schools often can’t afford.
To raise money for those grants, the HAF will host its annual Buddy Wade Memorial Golf Tournament on Tuesday, Sept. 18, at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Oxmoor Valley.
Registration will be at 7:30 a.m., with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
The tournament is a “great way to support, socialize, network and enjoy some friendly competition,” said event organizer Rusty Sansing. The HAF has held the tournament since 2009, but this is the third annual Buddy Wade Memorial, according to Sansing.
The late Wade was a prominent Homewood businessman and civic booster.
About 120 golfers played the tournament in 2017, and the chance to support Homewood athletics is not the only draw, Sansing said. Many people play to offer tribute to Wade, who “loved Homewood and was a great leader and ambassador in the community for many years,” he said.
The tournament raises approximately $20,000 for the HAF, according to Sansing.
Registration is $150 for individuals and $500 for teams of four. There are numerous sponsorships available, including a red sponsorship for $2,000, a blue sponsorship for $1,000 and hole sponsorships for $250.
Limbaugh Toyota will sponsor a hole-in-one contest, and Chick-fil-A, La Paz and Coca-Cola will be the food and beverage vendors.
