The City of Homewood announced that traffic surrounding the old Econo Lodge site may be disrupted on Tuesday and Wednesday due to construction.
A public announcement was shared on the city’s Facebook page on Monday, reading “Possible traffic issue! There will be work related to the new construction at the old Econo Lodge site Tuesday (6/18), that may require closing the road. Oxmoor and side roads may be affected tomorrow, possibly Wednesday. Plan ahead!”
A detour through Scott Street will connect Oxmoor Road and Oxmoor Boulevard.
The construction is part of a redevelopment project taken on by Poole and Company Architects. After the 2023 demolition of the old Econo Lodge hotel previously on site, the group reached out to Village Creek Development with the idea.
With a price tag of $32 million, the construction is set to bring a mixed-use development including 51 townhouses, 18 loft apartments and two restaurants.
The project is slated to be completed in early 2025.
