The Wright Balance Massage
Karen Wright, licensed massage therapist and owner of The Wright Balance Massage, calls one of her clients the “potato chip guy.”
This man came to Wright “just to relax and get a relaxing massage,” she said.
He mentioned to Wright during the intake process that his fingers and hands were sometimes numb, and when he reached into a bag of potato chips he sometimes couldn’t feel if he had the potato chip in his hand or not. Wright began working on his neck, knowing this might be a symptom of thoracic outlet syndrome.
“He’d come in weekly and I’d ask, ‘How are your hands?’ and he’d say that they were getting better,” she said. “After eight weeks, he said, ‘I’ve got all of the feeling back in my fingers.’”
Wright provides massages in a loving, safe and nurturing environment for individuals who suffer from chronic pain, stress, need positive touch or just to relax, she said. Her practice specifically targets people with eating disorders or who struggle with their body image, as Wright once did. She wants to see her clients make peace with their own bodies and find balance, she said.
“Balance comes from developing healthy habits in many areas of life, including getting the appropriate amount of sleep, balanced meals, exercise, relationships, and time for rest and relaxation,” Wright said.
