Wheelchair rugby games to feature USA vs. Japan

by

The U.S. Wheelchair Rugby Team and the Japanese National Team will be at the Lakeshore Foundation for a joint training camp and games from July 21-28. The games are free and open to the public.

Clayton Brackett, a 22-year-old Vestavia resident on the team, has wanted to make and play for Team USA since he was very young.

“I’m super-psyched about making the team, and I’m focused on competing in the ParaPan Games in August,” Brackett said.

Brackett, who started playing wheelchair basketball at age 12, just completed his second season playing for Lakeshore’s wheelchair rugby team, the Lakeshore Demolition.

He, along with a handful of Team USA athletes, have been selected to compete in Parapan American games, an international competition similar to the Paralympics. This year will be the first time that wheelchair rugby has appeared at the event, which will take place in Toronto.

The Lakeshore Foundation is located at 4000 Ridgeway Drive. For more information, visit lakeshore.org or call 313-7400.
