USA Wheelchair Rugby Paralympic Training Squad announced

The USA Wheelchair Rugby team qualified for 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio two weeks ago with a gold medal win in Paris, France, as the team won seven consecutive games to achieve top honors.

During a four-day camp April 27-30, 35 athletes participated in a team selection camp at Lakeshore Foundation in order to choose the athletes for the 2016 Rio Paralympic Training Squad. On May 1, 16 athletes were named to the training squad. The following athletes were selected and will begin preparation for the Paralympic Games:

Adam Scaturro, Lakewood, CO

Joe Delagrave, Prairie du Chien, WI

Nick Springer, Phoenix, AZ

Seth McBride, Portland, OR

Chuck Melton, Benton, KY

Eric Newby, Nashville, IL

Josh Wheeler, San Tan Valley, AZ

Alex Pabon, Newark, DE

Kory Puderbaugh, San Diego, CA

Chuck Aoki, Minneapolis, MN

Josh Brewer, Battleground, WA

Anthony McDaniel, Pascagoula-Gautier, MS

“We feel that we have selected a group that will be the next standard for USA and we know that the expectations are high, but they are no higher than the expectations we put on ourselves," USA Wheelchair Rugby Head Coach James Gumbert said. 

The Paralympic Games are set to take place September 7-18.
