USA opens with two wins in Lakeshore Cup

Team USA pulled out a 61-59 win over Canada on Day 1 of the 2015 Lakeshore Cup wheelchair basketball tournament at Lakeshore Foundation on Monday and followed that up with a 52-47 victory over Great Britain on Tuesday..

In the opener, the U.S. opened up a commanding 18-8 lead after one period, but Canada came back to close the gap and the score stayed tight the rest of the way.

With the score tied with 3 seconds left in the game, the USA’s Jared Arambula hit both his free throws to give the U.S. the win 61-59. 

Top scorers for the game were the U.S.’s  Nate Hinze with 11 and Canada’s Bo Hedges with 14.

The U.S. garnered its second win, becoming the only two-win team in the tournament, with their 52-47 finish against Great Britain.

Day 2 play ended with a great match-up between Canada and Australia coming down to an exciting 64-65 finish in favor of the Canadians. Also on Day 2, Great Britain knocked off Australia 62-46 and Canada beat the Aussies 65-64.
