3 Homewood track and field athletes bound for New Balance Nationals

Three Homewood High School girls track and field athletes will travel to Greensboro, North Carolina, this weekend to compete at New Balance Nationals Outdoor. Held June 17-19 at North Carolina A&T University's Irwin Belk Track, the meet serves as the de facto national championship of high school track and field.

Below are the Patriots who will be competing:

Elysa Griffin: The Class of 2016 graduate and University of South Alabama signee won a pair of Class 6A state long jump titles indoors and outdoors earlier this year.  Her mark of 19 feet, 1 inch stands as second best in the state. She will compete in the Championship division of the long jump and in the Emerging Elite division of the 100 and 200 meters.

Jasmine Griffin: The younger sister of Elysa Griffin, she notched a first-place finish in the 400 meters and a fifth-place finish in the 200 at May’s 6A state meet. With personal-best times of 56.81 seconds in the 400 and 24.89 in the 200, the rising junior qualified compete in the Emerging Elite division in both events.

Aiya Finch: Alabama’s top freshman horizontal jumper, Finch claimed a third-place finish in the triple jump at the indoor state meet and a fourth-place finish in the same event at the outdoor state meet. She also recorded top-eight state finishes in the long jump indoors and outdoors. She will compete in the Emerging Elite division of the triple jump and the Freshman division of the long jump.
