Lady Patriots rout Selma, advance to state semifinals

The Homewood Lady Patriots dominated their opponents from Selma from start to finish in a 67-46 win in the Class 6A Central Regional final Wednesday in Montgomery.

The Lady Pats (28-4) advance to next week's AHSAA Basketball State Finals in Birmingham.

Homewood led all but six seconds of the game. The Lady Pats owned the backboards, outrebounding Selma 59-30 including 20 offensive rebounds leading to 11 second-chance points and many trips to the free-throw line. Homewood made 35 of 53 free throws.

Freshman point guard Hannah Barber led the way with 19 points, sinking 3 of 4 3-pointers and 8 of 10 free throws. Tori Webb scored 14 points and added nine rebounds. Ajah Wayne added 12 points and eight rebounds. Shelby Hardy led rebounders with 10.

Areyana Williams was Selma's bright spot, scoring 13 points and grabbing a game-high 11 rebounds.

The Lady Patriots will face Austin in the first 6A state semifinal game on Wednesday at 9 .m. at Legacy Arena at the BJCC. Blount and Shades Valley will meet in the other semi at noon. The two winners will meet for the state championship.
