In the first-ever girls showcase game at the Steel City Invitational, Class 6A No. 1 Homewood dispatched of Class 3A No. 2 Lauderdale County, 70-53, on Tuesday night.

The Lady Patriots roared to a 48-point outburst in the first half to take a 23-point lead at the half. With the quick start that saw Homewood score 24 in each of the first two quarters, Lauderdale County never led in the contest.

Ajah Wayne was one of three Homewood players in double figures, as she led the team with 17 points along with a game high eight rebounds. Hannah Barber scored 15, nine of them coming on a perfect night for her from the free throw line. Shelby Hardy was a perfect 4-of-4 from the field and scored 12 points.

As a whole, the Lady Patriots could not have asked for a better night shooting free throws, as they registered a 95% success rate, making 18 and missing just one.

Homewood did a tremendous job protecting the basket, blocking nine shots to only one from Lauderdale County. Kayla Mikula swatted four shots and Tori Webb blocked three.

Allie Craig Cruce led Lauderdale County with 21 points, five rebounds, and three steals.

Homewood will travel to Montgomery to take part in the BallN' PowHer Prep Invitational next week.
