Homewood rolls over Briarwood, 38-14

For Briarwood, the opponent was the Homewood Patriots.  On this night, it might have seemed like they were playing the New England Patriots.

Homewood dominated every phase of the game, scoring a whopping 24 points in the second quarter in route to a 38-14 win over the Briarwood Lions.

The Patriots’ defense was equally strong, stifling the Briarwood attack and limiting the Lions to only one first down and 52 yards in the first half.  In contrast, Homewood gained 16 first downs and 260 yards by halftime.

Leading 31-0 at the half, Homewood played conservatively in the third and fourth quarters and cruised to the victory.  Running back Walter Rutledge, a senior, paced the ground attack with 145 yards on 31 carries.

Patriots quarterback Carson Griffis passed for four touchdowns, and began the contest with a scorching 8-for-8 in the first quarter.

Homewood rises to 2--0 in its region and 2-0 overall.  Briarwood drops to 1-2 and 1-1.

Next week, the Patriots travel for a showdown at Ramsay, while Briarwood celebrates homecoming against Shelby County.
