Student-organized fun run supports Project Homewood

Fifth-graders Chase Hoover and Alan Mobley-Burgos planned a Run for Fun as part of their LEAD service project at Shades Cahaba Elementary.

For the May 12 event, each class ran around the track outside to help raise awareness and funds for Project Homewood, an organization that provides scholarship for Homewood’s Extended Day Program. Together, they raised over $1,200 for Project Homewood.

Each time students made a complete loop around the track, they placed a sticky tab on a Project Homewood poster. When they ran out of sticky tabs, they congregated in the middle of the field and had a dance-off and celebrated with each other.
