Geography whizzes head to state competition

Shades Cahaba Elementary student Ayona Roychowdhury and Hall-Kent Elementary fifth-grader Robert Merchant recently won the opportunity to compete in the Alabama State Geographic Bee. The Bee is open to students in grades four to eight.

Last year Robert won the right to participate as a fourth grader and tied for third place.

One winner from each state will advance to the national competition in May at the National Geographic Society headquarters in Washington, D.C.
