Fifth grade student advances to county spelling bee

Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic School fifth grader Jay Leonard, won the school's annual spelling bee, a competition that includes fourth through eighth grades. Jay placed second in his school last year. This year, the runner up was seventh grade student Nathaniel Gale.

Jay went on to win Homewood district spelling bee with the word "compendium." Next, he will compete at the Jefferson County Spelling Bee. The winner of the county contest will advance to the state spelling bee at Oak Mountain High School on March 9.
