Collins receives Newton Scholarship

Homewood High School senior Madison Collins was awarded the Dr. Jodi Newton Scholarship by the Homewood City Schools Foundation on April 3 as part of the Homewood Grown event. The $1,000 scholarship was established in 2008 by the foundation to honor former Homewood City Schools Superintendent Dr. Jodi Newton.

Madison is the daughter of Brian and Suzy Collins. She is a member of the Homewood Varsity Volleyball Team, the Homewood Band, National Honor Society, Beta Club, Mu Alpha Theta, Peer Helpers, Key Club and SGA, and she served as a facilitator for the Birmingham Civil Rights Youth Forum. She is an active member of Hunter Street Baptist Church, where she serves on the youth leadership team and is a member of the Chi Alpha Choir. Upon graduation, Madison will be attending Auburn University on an academic scholarship where she will be studying pre-Medicine.
