The Joy Gallery is holding an opening reception for Trying to Occur, a photo group by William Carey Lowell Brown.

The reception is Sunday, Feb. 7 from 1-3 p.m. and open to the public, and the exhibit will be on display during regular gallery hours from Feb. 7 through March 6.

The group of photos is “An ongoing exploration of images with more detail, less detail, shapes, spaces, constellations and their suggestive reality as they try to occur,” according to a release.

Brown is a photographer from Gadsden and was educated at The University of the Arts. He has held multiple photographic positions in the Birmingham area.

The Joy Gallery is located at Homewood Cumberland Presbyterian Church at 513 Columbiana Road. Gallery hours are from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Friday or by appointment. To schedule an appointment, call 942-3051.
