Rock the Block becomes VBS program

One of the great traditions of summer in the South is Vacation Bible School, where kids can get together at church to celebrate their faith but also play games, have snacks and make new friends.

That tradition is carried on by Christ Fellowship Church (CFC) in Homewood, which will hold its Vacation Bible School at Patriot Park in West Homewood from Monday, June 6, through Thursday, June 9, from 6-8 p.m. each night. Admission is free.

The events will mix faith and fun, according to CFC Associate Pastor Nick Murray.

“Each night, we’ll spend time teaching a Bible story, telling the gospel story, and having a church member share their testimony,” he said. “In addition to that, we spend time doing recreational games, which we pretty much make up and the kids usually really enjoy them; crafts that are tied into the Bible story; and snacks.”

CFC holds their regular church meetings on Sundays at Homewood City Hall and does not have a building available to them during the week, so they have held their VBS — formerly called “Rock the Block” — at Patriot Park for several years, according to Murray. “(We) have really enjoyed not only being able to teach our kids, but to interact with many other kids who are not a part of our church,” he said.
