Two Homewood High School students were named as winners in the 2016 Homewood Public Library Teen Poetry Contest.

In honor of National Poetry Month in April, the Homewood Public Library continued its annual Teen Poetry Contest, which is open to sixth through 12th graders from Jefferson County. Students could submit one poem, and there were more than 100 entries in this year’s competition.

Ninth grade Homewood High School student Ahlam Saleh won first place with her poem When Falling in Love…, and 10th grader Sarah Patrick won second place with Surprise Party. The third place winner was Zuki Al-Safarjalani, a 10th grade student at the Islamic Academy of Alabama, who wrote Life in Syria.
