The Homewood Library Foundation will host its third annual Block Party fundraiser in the Homewood Public Library parking lot Aug. 13 from 5 to 8 p.m.

Block Party proceeds will go to the foundation, which seeks to enhance the library’s status as a local cultural center by raising private money to supplement public funding for facilities, services, projects, collections and technology.

Board members said the library receives city funds for existing programs but not for long-term growth projects. That’s where the foundation and its fundraising efforts come in.

Adult tickets this year include food from Nabeel’s, Little Donkey, Demetri’s BBQ, Urban Cookhouse, Homewood Gourmet and others, as well as adult beverages, library officials said.

Tickets for children include Dave’s Pizza and hot dogs, as well as participation in the activities that include a dunking booth, bounce houses, face painting, a climbing wall and more.

Mike Sheehan and Eric Watters will provide live music.

Board members said they were seeking to make the event attractive to teenagers, as well as adults and children.

“We are trying to get the whole crowd the library represents to come,” board member Fran Jones said. “The whole community uses the library.”

Adult tickets are $30. Tickets for children ages 4 and older are $10. Children ages 3 and younger are admitted free. Tickets can be purchased through the Homewood Public Library website at homewoodpubliclibrary.org/blockparty.

About 35 Homewood businesses have signed up as sponsors. For information about becoming a sponsor, contact Heather Cover at 332-6621 or hcover@bham.lib.al.us.
