Crimestoppers of Metro Alabama names Bob Copus interim executive director

by

Crimestoppers of Metro Alabama has named law enforcement veteran Bob Copus as interim executive director, replacing Jim Neill, who is leaving the position to practice law.

Copus served 38 years in the Homewood Police Department, retiring in 2016 as deputy chief after holding key positions in the patrol division, developing and organizing the tactical team and serving as acting police chief in 2003.

He has served on the Crimestoppers board of directors since early 2017. Throughout his career, Copus has been instrumental in developing community relations efforts with law enforcement. He currently volunteers as Torch Run liaison for Special Olympics Alabama.

Copus will fill the interim executive director position as the Crimestoppers Board of Directors seeks a permanent replacement.

“Crimestoppers is an effort I have been committed to for a long time,” Copus said. “I believe in its purpose and I see the great results our program has gotten over the years. We rely totally on the community for anonymous tips that eventually lead to getting dangerous criminals off the streets and keeping our neighborhoods safer. I look forward to leading the organization and assisting the transition to an eventual permanent executive director.”
