City to host annual July Fourth fest downtown

by

The annual July 4th Festival in downtown Homewood will be July 4, from 5 to 9 p.m. The event is hosted by the city of Homewood and the Homewood Parks & Recreation Board.

There will be a combination of inflatables and rides, and a DJ will provide music and interactive activities for attendees. Two blocks of 18th Street S. and one block of 29th Avenue S. will be blocked for pedestrian traffic to make way for the event.

There is no admission charge, but attendees must purchase a $10 wristband in order to ride and play on the attractions. Wristbands will be on sale in a tent near the intersection of 18th Street and 29th Avenue S.

All activities will end as the annual “Thunder on the Mountain” fireworks show at nearby Vulcan Park and Museum on Red Mountain begins. Downtown Homewood is one of the best locations in the metro area to view the display.

If there are any weather-related changes or delays the day of the festival, the Parks & Recreation Board will post alerts on its website at homewoodparks.com, on its Facebook page at “Homewood Parks” and on its Twitter feed @homewoodparks.
