Back to School Bash returns to Homewood Central Park

The start of school doesn’t mean the fun should stop. The Homewood Back to School Bash offers an opportunity to carry the summer fun into the first week of the school year.

The bash will be Aug. 27 at Homewood Central Park from 4 to 8 p.m. This year, it will feature rides, inflatables, food, a live DJ and entertainment.

Rusty Holley, the Parks & Recreation superintendent, said he wasn’t yet sure what rides would be featured.

“We try not to use the same things as we do for We Love Homewood Day,” he said.

But he said the bash will have three or four big mechanical rides and various inflatables. There will be a special inflatable area for children younger than 5, so parents don’t have to worry about their little ones on inflatables with the older, bigger children.

The event is free, but in order to ride and play on the attractions a $10 unlimited wristband must be purchased.

The proceeds from the event will benefit the volunteer group; however, one has not been chosen yet.

Holley said one of the aspects of the bash is that it’s a transition from summer to fall not only with school, but also with sports.

Though swimming was the main sport in the summer, Holley said many are coming in the fall. Flag football, girls’ softball and soccer will start.

One of the reasons Holley said he enjoys the bash is because it marks the end of summer.

“It’s for people to say ‘goodbye summer, hello school,’” he said.
