Warrants were signed today on Maximo Barrionuevo, 26, for a burglary/robbery that occurred on Wednesday, according to a Homewood Police Department email alert.

The burglary occurred in the 200 block of Broadway Street. The victim reported she noticed the back door of her house had been forced open, and a Hispanic male came out of the house and demanded her keys and purse. The male then stole the victim’s car. After calling 911, Homewood Patrol Officers saw the car on Oxmoor Road and were able to place Barrionuevo under arrest, according to a post on the Homewood Police Department Facebook page.

The warrants are for burglary in the third degree, robbery in the third degree and theft of property in the first degree. Each charge is on $200,000 bond.

Homewood police spokesman Sgt. Andrew Didcoct said Barrionuevo did not use a weapon in the theft. Although Barrionuevo has a Tucson, Arizona, address, Didcoct said he has not spoken to police and they do not know why he was in Birmingham.

Barrionuevo is in the Homewood city jail awaiting transfer to Jefferson County jail.
