West Homewood resident Andrew Wolverton has qualified as a candidate for the Ward 2 Place 2 council seat currently held by Vance Moody, who is not seeking re-election. Wolverton will be campaigning against Don Little, who announced earlier this week.

Wolverton has lived in Homewood for five years and works as an outpatient physical therapist at Children's of Alabama. He and his wife, Trista, moved to Homewood from Seattle and have three children: Ruby, 4, Wesley, 3, and Clark, 1.

He is a member of Hunter Street Baptist Church and is involved with Wish 2 Enrich, Christian Medical Ministries of Alabama and organization of the West Homewood community yard sales. Wolverton has also served as a Bell Runner in the Mercedes Marathon for two years, raising money for the Bell Center.

If elected, this would be Wolverton's first time holding an elected office. He said he chose to run because he wants to be a voice for his neighborhood and continue the growth of new businesses and community in Ward 2, such as the Slow Your Roll bike rides and the West Homewood Farmers Market.

"I am running to help serve the needs of our community. Lots of great things have been happening in West Homewood," Wolverton said. "I want to help see the growth and development continue in a very purposeful and intentional manner to facilitate sustainable business for our neighborhood."

Some of Wolverton's campaign issues include developing a "village center" in the Patriot Park area, redesigning Oxmoor Road and related traffic issues, development of the Lakeshore greenway trail and support for Homewood's schools and emergency personnel.
