UA, AU team doctor at Alabama Booksmith tonight

On Wednesday, Jan. 9, Dr. James Andrews completed knee replacement surgery for Washington Redskins rookie sensation Robert Griffin III. And tonight, if you like, you can ask him how it went.

Andrews, the nation’s premier sports surgeon and one of the founding members of Andrews Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center in Birmingham, will sign copies of his new book, Any Given Monday: Sports Injuries and How to Prevent Them, for Athletes, Parents and Coaches – Based on My Life in Sports Medicine, at the Alabama Booksmith in Homewood at 6 p.m.

According to a release from the Booksmith, Any Given Monday is a combination of memoir that describes sailing in America’s Cup races, being an SEC champion in college and his sports medicine career – as well as a valuable tool for parents in preventing the millions of sports injuries that befall youth athletes.

Currently, according to Andrews Sports Medicine’s website andrewscenter.com, Andrews serves as; Medical Director for Intercollegiate Sports at Auburn University; Senior Orthopaedic Consultant at the University of Alabama; and Orthopaedic Consultant for Troy University, the University of West Alabama, Tuskegee University and Samford University.

He is also senior consultant for the Washington Redskins, medical director for the Tampa Bay Rays and team physician for the Birmingham Barons.
