Charges filed against Walker County teens in Homewood police chase, shooting

Homewood police released the charges brought against two Walker County teens that were involved in a vehicle pursuit and shooting on Monday, Oct. 19.

The Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office issued warrants for Jackson Wayne Freeman, 18, and Joseph Ryan Brasher, 17, on Friday, Oct. 23.

One suspect was shot following the pursuit and is still undergoing treatment at UAB Hospital. Police did not specify which suspect was shot but reported he was armed, and the Alabama Bureau of Investigation is continuing its investigation into the officer-involved shooting.

The pursuit began around 1:13 a.m. when Homewood officers were investigating a suspicious vehicle at a local hotel. When the officers questioned the occupants of the vehicle, the suspects sped off. One officer reportedly had to move out of the way to avoid being hit by the car. The pursuit ended in Walker County.

Freeman has been charged with attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, drug trafficking for methamphetamine, first-degree possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and attempting to elude law enforcement. His total bond is $225,600.

Brasher was charged as an adult for drug trafficking for methamphetamine, first-degree possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. His total bond is $20,300.
