Samford A Cappella Choir to sing Friday night

Samford University’s A Cappella Choir will participate in the university’s monthly Choral Vespers service, combining sacred spaces on campus with the university’s mission. On Friday, March 6 at 5:30 p.m., the choir will lead the congregation in worship inside the Hodges Chapel. Admission is free and seating is limited.

The choir will perform Pawel Lukaszewski’s “Memento Mei, Domine” and “Crucem tuam adoramus, Domine” and Paul Carey’s “Jesus Wept.” In light of the recent passing of former conductor Dr. Gene Black, the choir will perform Peter Lutkin’s “The Lord Bless You and Keep You,” a piece that has been sung since the early years of the choir. The choir will sing at a Vespers service on April 25 and join with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra to perform Carmina Burana on April 10 and 11.

Founded in 1939, the 41-member Samford University A Cappella Choir performs free concerts on campus throughout the fall and spring each year including the Choral Vespers series, which formally combines the university’s sacred spaces and Christian mission. Additionally they sing off-campus at local churches and conferences. Dr. Philip Copeland is the current conductor of the A Cappella Choir.
