Rotary club awards Libecap as chalk art winner

Artist Karen Libecap won the top prize at the Sidewalk Chalk Art Festival sponsored by Homewood Rotary during We Love Homewood Day activities on May 2. Libecap received a Best in Show certificate and cash prize at a recent Homewood Rotary club meeting for her drawing of a puppy. Libecap was sponsored by the Alabama Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

 Other top finishers were Sydney Harrington, sponsored by Brookwood Medical Center, for the Most Creative; David Dinkins, sponsored by Limbaugh Toyota, for Chairman’s Choice award; and Emma Nobel, sponsored by Leslie Noble, for the Youth Division. Honorable mention awards went to Holland Nguyen, sponsored by Alabama National Guard, and Emily Pietrantone, sponsored by RSU Contractors.

Other Chalk Art sponsors included ERA-King Realty, Frito Lay, Graham & Company, Grainger, Iberia Bank, Al Murray, Realty South, Sam’s Club, Satellites Unlimited, Inc. and Southland Trucks International.

Proceeds from the chalk art event and the We Love Homewood bake sale totaled more than $6,300 and will help support Homewood Rotary Club’s local, national and international projects.  Each year, the club awards scholarships totaling about $12,000 to Homewood High School seniors.

Bake sale donors included Buffalo Rock, Dreamcakes, Edgar’s, Nabeel’s, Pastry Art Bake Shoppe, Sam’s Club, Savage’s, Western Market, and many Rotary members and volunteer bakers.

Rotarians Sara Moulton and Sandra Nelson chaired the chalk art and bake sale projects, respectively.
