Thomas Reid has thrown his hat in the ring for the Ward 5 Place 2 seat currently held by Peter Wright, who is seeking reelection.

Reid moved to Homewood from Birmingham in fall 2015 and lives on Devon Drive. He works in financial reporting at BBVA Compass and he and his wife, Tori, are expecting twins later this year. Reid is also on the board for the Phoenix Club of Birmingham.

At 28 years old, Reid is one of the youngest candidates in this year's election, but he sees his age and relatively recent relocation to Homewood as an advantage.

"I offer a fresh perspective on how to improve Homewood. Yes, I’m young and newer to the city, but I believe that gives me an advantage and an ability to see things from an outsider's view point," Reid said.

His platform includes fixing the city's roads, supporting schools and parks and increasing transparency in the workings of city government. Reid has not held an elected office before, but was active in supporting Uber when the Birmingham City Council was discussing whether to allow the ridesharing service.

"Homewood is doing great things. Our citizens need to know about them and need to have a voice," Reid said.
