Police taking back prescription drugs this weekend

by

Homewood Police is participating in the 10th Annual National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, Sept. 26.

Anyone hoping to dispose of prescription drugs can stop by Homewood Police Department from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Police will have drug-neutralizing pouches on site, which people can use at home. The pouches utilize a proprietary activated carbon that neutralizes prescription drugs, making them safe for the environment and ineffective for misuse.

“National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications,” according to a Homewood PD Facebook post.

Liquids, needles and sharp objects will not be accepted. Pills and pouches will be accepted.

Homewood PD is located at 1833 29th St. South. Other collection sites can be found at the DEA website
