Police investigating in-custody inmate death

Homewood police are conducting an investigation into the death of an inmate at the Homewood City Jail.

Inmate Kindra Darnell Chapman, 18, was found Tuesday in her cell around 7:42 p.m. with a bedsheet tied around her neck. Jail personnel and Homewood Fire and Rescue tried to resuscitate Chapman.

She was taken to Brookwood Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

The Jefferson County Coroner was later notified and responded to the hospital.
