Andrew Glaze, the Eleventh Poet Laureate of Alabama, is coming to the Homewood Public Library this Sunday.

In celebration of his induction into the Alabama Writers Hall of Fame, NewSouth Books has announced publication of Glaze’s newest collection of verse, Overheard in a Drugstore and Other Poems. Glaze has been highly praised in the New York Times, nominated for the Pulitzer Prize, and honored with awards from Poetry Magazine and the Southeastern Booksellers Association.

At the event, Glaze will read a sampling of his work, and a reception will follow. Copies of his poetry will be available for purchase and signing.

The book signing is scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 16, at 3 p.m. in the Round Auditorium.

Andrew Glaze, age 95, is an American poet, playwright, and novelist who grew up in Birmingham. Much of his poetry emulates his coming of age in the South, and his eventual return there. He also lived and wrote in New York City for 31 years.

“His poems are rich narrative informing of simple truths, and his local status means that the truths he tells and the narratives he creates in his poetry will be specific to you,” said Leslie West, adult services librarian at the Homewood Public Library.
