Pickin' in the Park to be a different kind of music festival

by

Bob Tedrow of Homewood Music and the Homewood Arts Council describes Pickin’ in the Park as a “reverse festival.”

Instead of simply watching other musicians play, attendees are encouraged to bring their own instruments and play with others as well as with local musicians.

The inaugural community jam session sponsored by the Homewood Arts Council will take place on Saturday, June 28 from 4 to 8 p.m. in Homewood Central Park.

Several musicians will be performing on-stage as well as mingling and playing with the attendees. Tedrow hopes to inspire the relaxed, creative atmosphere of parking lot picking sessions typical at many festivals.

Tedrow also expects to have a showcase of young violin players and possibly an instrument “petting zoo” where people can try out different instruments.

The free event will offer food trucks, shade tents, ice and water.
