Parks and Recreation revamps fall festival

The annual fall festival hosted by the city Parks and Recreation Department has been renamed the Howl-O-Scream Festival, and it comes with a list of new activities for the whole family.

The Howl-O-Scream Festival will be Oct. 29 at West Homewood Park. Senior Recreation Leader Alissa Brock said the biggest change is the addition of a hayride and haunted walk for those who want some spooky fun before Halloween.

Matt Collins, who is one of the organizers for the festival, said the haunted walk will last 10 to 15 minutes around the park and include plenty of thrills. Some students from Homewood High School will be volunteering at the walk.

There will also be around six inflatable slides and bounce houses, plus Trunk or Treating for kids to fill their candy bags. Brock said this year's games include pumpkin bean bag toss, zombie bowling, mini skee ball and more. Costumes are highly encouraged.

In previous years, the fall festival has been held in the morning, but Brock said they changed it to an evening event and added the hayride and haunted walk to bring in bigger crowds of all ages.

Games and Trunk or Treat last from 5 to 9 p.m. and costs $5 to enter. The hayride and haunted walk start at sunset and last until 10 p.m., and costs an additional $5 per person.
