Mayor to recommend new police chief Monday
Mayor Scott McBrayer is expected to give his recommendation to the council for a new police chief at Monday's city council meeting.
The item is listed on the Dec. 21 agenda at homewoodal.net. If selected, the candidate will replace current Chief Jim Roberson when he retires on Jan. 1, 2016. Roberson has been the chief since 2011 and has had a 42-year policing career. He announced his retirement in October.
No other details have been given about the candidate or selection process.
Other council business for Monday will include:
- Considering a sign ordinance variance to build a monument sign for Ollie's, Pep Boys and other tenants at 800-808 Green Springs Highway.
- Considering renewing a contract with Santek for landfill services. Santek was the lowest bidder, and provided an offer lower than what it currently charges the city.
- Asking the Finance Committee to consider increasing the city's bid for the Fox property, planned to be part of the Greenway trail, from $240,000 to $280,000 per its appraisal value.
- Asking the Public Safety Committee to consider a three-way stop at the intersection of Oak Grove Road and Raleigh Avenue, as well as a restaurant retail liquor license for Real and Rosemary, 1922 29th Ave. S.
