On June 26, city officials and representatives from Target gathered at the construction site on Lakeshore Drive to set the final beam for the new two-story Target store.

Those present used Sharpies to sign the beam before it was hoisted into place.

Representatives from Target thanked Mayor Scott McBrayer and the Homewood City Council for their hard work to bring Target to their city.

"Today we are gathered to see physically what we have been talking about for several years," Mayor Scott McBrayer said in his comments. "It's an exciting time."

McBrayer also thanked Target for believing in the city of Homewood and welcomed the store to the city.

The Target store is projected to open in the spring of 2013. To learn more about the location, read The Homewood Star's past coverage.
