A 45-year-old Birmingham man has formally been charged in two Homewood bank robberies.

Kerry Dewayne Harbin was taken into custody in Mississippi on Friday, Oct. 23 after going into a Renasant Bank and demanding money while in a wig and baseball cap. New Albany Police Department, Mississippi Highway Patrol and the Union County Sheriff’s Department took him into custody, and he is currently being held at Union County Mississippi Jail.

Harbin has been charged in the Sept. 1 robbery of the BBVA Compass Bank on State Farm Parkway and the Sept. 17 robbery of the Wells Fargo Bank. On both occasions, Harbin passed a note demanding cash to the teller. He also wore a wig and ball cap in the robberies.

Harbin's bond is set at $100,000 per charge due to the number of banks he robbed and the "methodical elusiveness" he showed during investigations, according to Homewood PD.

Homewood police have been involved in a joint investigation with Birmingham, Vestavia, Alabaster and Hoover police departments as well as the FBI SafeStreets Task Force.

On Oct. 26, Hoover police charged Harbin with third degree robbery in connection to the Sept. 17 robbery of the Union State Bank on Lorna Road. His bond was set at $100,000.

Habin is believed to be connected to several other bank robberies in Alabama, according to Homewood PD.
