July 4 to affect city hours, services

by

While Homewood families are enjoying barbecue from Our Lady of Sorrows and fireworks at Thunder on the Mountain, many city employees are also getting a long weekend in honor of Independence Day.

City Hall will be closed on Monday, July 4 and return to normal hours on Tuesday, July 5. The garbage pick-up schedule will be slightly different: Monday pick-ups will be moved to Tuesday, and Tuesday pick-ups will be moved to Wednesday. Regular garbage pick-up will resume the following week. Visit homewoodal.net for more information.

The Community Center and West Homewood pools will be open for normal hours on Independence Day, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Visit homewoodparks.com.

However, the Homewood Public Library will be closed July 2-4 in honor of the holiday. Normal hours for the library will resume on July 5: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays; 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays; and 2-6 p.m. on Sundays. Visit homewoodpubliclibrary.org for more information.

Also, remember that the annual July Fourth Fest in downtown will block off most of 18th Street South and 29th Avenue South from 5 to 9 p.m. on Monday, July 4.
