Hot Strings Festival to feature Homewood High School duo

A new musical act straight from Homewood High School will be on stage between Act of Congress and Matthew Mayfield at the Hot Strings Festival at Colonial Brookwood Village on Sunday.

Caroline Sims and Rebecca Feldman have always sung together in various choirs at school, but when they found out that each other preferred this acoustic jam style of music, they got together to see how they sounded. Together, they formed singing/song-writing duo Uneven Ground, coming together only weeks before Hot Strings. They sent in a homemade You Tube video to audition for the spot.

Uneven Ground performs several covers including The Script's "The Man Who Can't Be Moved" and several original songs the girls wrote individually and together.

Caroline and Rebecca recorded their first original single, "Darling” at Mason Music in the weeks leading up to Hot Strings and just so happened to run into Sarah Simmons, from last season's "The Voice," while they were recording.

Caroline is a Homewood High School junior who serves as the Alabama District Secretary for Key Club and plays varsity tennis. A Homewood sophomore, Rebecca dances with the Star Spangled Girls as a part of the Homewood Patriot Marching Band. Both girls perform with Homewood's award-winning showchoir, The Network.

Hot Strings Festival, which runs from 12-6 p.m. on Oct. 6, will benefit The Foundry Rescue Mission and Recovery Center. The event will be held in the parking lot between Belk and the new Fresh Market at Colonial Brookwood Village. Tickets, $15, are available at HotStrings.org.
