Homewood schools observe Digital Citizenship Awareness

by

Homewood City Schools are continuing efforts toward digital awareness this month.

The district started observing Digital Citizenship Awareness on Oct. 5 and will continue through Oct. 23.

Awareness revolved around online safety last year, utilizing posters and bookmarks to promote respect, education and protection online. This year, the focus shifted toward technological transformation.

The theme is “Back to the Future with Technology,” looking at how technology has affected the way people learn, teach, communicate and organize.

Activities around the district included a rotating museum with visuals comparing old and new technology, daily announcements focusing on safe and responsible use of technology, an e-book challenge encouraging students and staff to use the Homewood City Schools Digital Library and targeted technology learning to outline skills for students at different grade levels.

On Oct. 23, the school district is serving as a host of a Schoology Exchange at the Board of Education. Schoology, a learning management system, will invite curriculum and technology coordinators from the state department of education to attend.
