Homewood families lose belongings in flooding, donations being taken

Homewood City Schools had approximately 80 students and families affected by the recent flooding. Families living in Lakeshore Gardens apartments were evacuated, and some of them lost many of their belongings.

Some of these families’ apartments are okay, but they are not able to get into their buildings until proper authorities deem the buildings safe.

The American Red Cross has set up a shelter in Homewood; however, they do not have the capacity to manage clothing. If anyone would like to help these families, community members can bring Wal-Mart or Target gift cards to Hall-Kent Elementary School, Homewood Middle School or Homewood High School. School administrators and counselors will work with the families to help get them the clothing and items they have lost.

Update: As of April 14, Homewood City Schools has collected $6,065 in gift cards from faculty and staff and community members to help out the families that were affected from the flood at Lakeshore Gardens apartments. The schools are still collecting gift card donations.
