Hindi language program celebrates anniversary

Hindi Pathshala of Birmingham celebrated its 22nd anniversary on Sunday, March 3 at Homewood Library. More than 100 people attended the program.

Students as young as age 5 performed plays, poems and other items in Hindi language.   The audience was asked to solve Hindi riddles, and there was even a flute performance.

Students of Hindi from Samford University also entertained everyone with their “shopping experience in India.”

Four students of the Pathshala receieved graduation certificates after achieving proficiency in reading, writing and speaking Hindi.

The program was followed by delicious Indian snacks and masala chai, prepared by the mothers, teachers and other volunteers.

Dr. Anju Bansal was the emcee, and Mrs. Samta Shah was in charge of decorations.

Hindi Pathshala holds classes in Hindi Sunday afternoons in the Vestavia Hills Civic Center. The students include from age 5 to adults. The goal of the school is proficiency in reading, writing and speaking Hindi language. The teachers are Mrs. Kiran Srivastava, Mrs. Shilpi Dwarkesh, Miss. Priya Shah, and Dr. Pratibha Khare.
