Hearing to consider rezoning West Homewood land for new code

Changes to West Homewood development could be one step closed after a hearing on Tuesday, April 1.

The Homewood Planning Commission will hold a hearing at 6 p.m. at Homewood City Hall regarding rezoning parcels of land for the new form-based development code for the area.

The code would ensure consistent character of buildings in the area, much like those seen in Edgewood or downtown Homewood.

Parcels slated for consideration during the hearing run along both sides of Oxmoor Road between Patriot Park and where Oxmoor Road forks into Oxmoor Boulevard. Land on Scott Street and two parcels on Oak Grove across from Patriot Park are also under consideration.

The Regional Planning Commission and City first presented plans for the form-based code at a public meeting in October 2012, and it came before City Council in early 2014.

The code would apply to all future renovations or new construction along Oxmoor Road and Oak Grove Road.
