In preparation for the annual Independence Day celebration, Vulcan Park and Museum will hold a flag retirement ceremony to raise awareness for proper flag etiquette. Vulcan will partner with the Birmingham Army Recruiting Company to host this 15-minute ceremony on Wednesday, June 24 at 4:45 p.m.

The goal of a flag retirement ceremony is to promote American heritage and provide a community service by honorably folding and disposing of worn United States flags.

This ceremony is open to the public and will be held at the base of the flag pole at Vulcan Park and Museum. The Birmingham Army Recruiting company will retire the flag promptly at 5 p.m. followed by the proper folding of the flag.

Members of the community who visit the park on June 24 and bring their worn flags will receive free admission to the museum and the observation tower. Flags will be collected at the Vulcan Center Museum from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Vulcan Park and Museum is located at 1701 Valley View Drive. Go to visitvulcan.com for further details.
