Finance committee to hear proposed budget

Mayor Scott McBrayer will present budgets for the 2015-16 fiscal year at Monday’s Homewood City Council meeting.

The budget will go before the Finance Committee, which will consider budgets for general, capital, debt service and special revenue funds as presented by the mayor. This is the first introduction of the budget for next fiscal year, which starts Oct. 1.

The Financial Committee will also consider fiscal year end bonuses to be paid in November, as requested by McBrayer and Finance Director Melody Salter. A one-time transfer of the general fund surplus to the capital projects fund is also before the council.

The committee meeting is Monday, Aug. 31 at 5 p.m.

In other news:

The Special Issues Committee will consider a variance to the sign ordinance for property at 600 Brookwood Mall.

The Public Safety Committee will consider traffic calming measures on East Edgewood Drive and Lancaster Road. The committee will also consider a crosswalk on Valley Avenue.

The Planning and Development Committee will hear updates on past, present and future sidewalk projects.
