Fantastic Mr. Fox on stage at The Dance Foundation

by

The children’s tale Fantastic Mr. Fox is coming to The Dance Foundation Theater July 23-26.

The performance will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday and 2:30 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $10.

Roald Dahl’s story of Fantastic Mr. Fox follows the vain attempts of three farmers, Boggis, Bunce and Bean. The farmers try to get rid of the fox that regularly steals food from their farms. Outwitted at every turn, the farmer’s ploys backfire. Fantastic Mr. Fox devises a plan, which bring his friends and family together to celebrate with a feast.

The children’s novel was also made popular by the 2009 animated comedy film featuring the voices of George Clooney and Meryl Streep. In the dramatization by David Wood for stage, twelve Birmingham actors, ages to 13 to 17, make up the cast. The actors were chosen through an open casting call held in April. Rebecca Yeager is the director of the play.

Fantastic Mr. Fox is the 11th full-scale production by The Dance Foundation’s StageDoor Youth Theatre Company since its inauguration in 2005. The program nurtures the creative spirit through age-appropriate drama and acting experiences, including a production each summer and classes September through May.
