Election Update: July 14

On Aug. 23, Homewood voters will get to elect their 2016-2020 City Council members. The Homewood Star will provide weekly updates leading up to the election, so you can easily keep up with everything you need to know before you vote.

Here’s Homewood’s latest:

- Wayne Qualls announced his run for Ward 4

- Don Little began his campaign for Ward 2 seat

- Andrew Wolverton announced his run for Ward 2

Other important information:

- Check out our Election Guide for information about how to vote, how to qualify as a candidate and which incumbents are running again.

- Official qualifying for mayoral and council candidates began Tuesday, July 5 and lasts until July 19. See the city clerk’s office in Rosewood Hall for qualifying forms. The Election Guide also explains how to qualify as a candidate.

- Voters must register by Aug. 8 and regular absentee ballots must be applied for by Aug. 18.

- The Homewood Star is sponsoring a City Council Election Forum on Tuesday, Aug. 16, 6:30-8 p.m. at Rosewood Hall. The event is open to the public and Jonathan Hardison from FOX6 News will be moderating. Email sydney@thehomewoodstar.com with questions for your city council candidates

- A runoff election, should it be required, will be held Oct. 4. Elected officials will take office Nov. 7.
